Please arrive 10 minutes before starting time of the tour.
Join us for a 1.5-hour walking tour through the heart of Split, where ancient and medieval history come to life. We’ll take you on a journey through time, starting at the famous Riva promenade, the vibrant social hub of the city.
Our adventure begins in the substructures (cellars) of Diocletian’s Palace, a remarkable example of Roman engineering that still amazes its visitors. From there, we’ll come to the breathtaking Peristyle, the beautiful Roman square where emperors were once honored. Nearby, you’ll admire the Temple of Jupiter, an outstanding piece of ancient religious architecture, and St. Duje’s Cathedral, once the mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian himself.
Next, we’ll explore Diocletian’s private quarters, where you’ll see remnants of 6th-century mosaics, giving you a glimpse of life inside the palace walls. As we wander through the maze-like streets, we’ll pass through all four of the palace’s historic gates—Golden, Silver, Bronze, and Iron—each with its own fascinating story.
A special highlight of our tour is the famous statue of Gregory of Nin (Grgur Ninski). According to local tradition, rubbing his toe is said to bring good luck—don’t miss your chance!
We’ll also stop by Split’s 16th-century city clock, a unique piece of history that still tells time today. As we continue, you’ll marvel at the city’s charming medieval squares, where Venetian and Gothic influences blend beautifully into Split’s unique architecture.
Finally, we’ll conclude our tour back at the Riva promenade, often called the city’s “living room.” Here, you can relax, enjoy the sea breeze, and soak in the lively atmosphere of Split.
